Rachel’s Role: Imogen Helhoughton
Synopsis:
When the body of a young
girl is found on the bank of the Thames, Sherlock Holmes and Watson are called from retirement to investigate the death of a presumed
prostitute. However, the presence of a stocking wedged in her throat and another tied around her neck makes Holmes arrive
at the conclusion that the victim was, in fact, a murdered virgin. Furthermore, he proclaims that the girl is none other than
Lady Alice Pentney, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Narborough.
The Duchess is called in
to view the body of her deceased daughter, but she proclaims that Holmes was mistaken because the victim was not wearing her
daughter’s attire. However, she soon admits that it is in fact her child after Holmes and Watson “stare her down”.
The Duke of Narborough then hires Holmes to investigate the death of his daughter.
Soon after, the daughter
of Lord Hugo and Lady Judith Massingham, Lady Georgina, has gone missing. She is found hanging from a street lamp wearing
the clothing of Lady Alice.
Holmes and Watson are convinced
that a serial killer is on the loose and conclude that the most clues would be found with the unknown first victim. To discover
her identity the clothing that Lady Alice is found in is once again examined. A
pay slip from a shoe store is discovered in the garments. Watson then, in the guise of an American searching for his missing
daughter, visits the shoe shop. He finds that the first victim was named Sarah O'Brien and that she supposedly committed suicide.
Watson then visits the graveyard to dig up the corpse in which he discovers a stocking lodged in her throat. However, while
he was there a preteen, Imogen Helhoughton, disappears into the fog right under his nose.
Imogen, is surprisingly found
and questioned. She reveals that her abductor attempted to undress her, paying particular interest to her stockings. In the
process of this he suddenly became enraged and threw her into the street. Holmes examined Imogon’s feet and discovered
that a surgical scar saved her life.
Later it is discovered that
Charles Allen, who worked for the Duchess of Narborough was once employed in the same household as the first murder victim.
Holmes arranges for Imogen to passed Charles Allen in the hallway which results in her screaming “That’s him!”
However, his fingerprints do not match, leaving the case open to further investigation.
